Wine and temperature

sign in window with the word wine

Before I start talking about the subject of wine and the relation to the temperature to serve it on I have to admit that I have never been too crazy about wine.

I am more a beer drinker and maybe the reason for that is that I always thought of wine as a drink for women and beer more as a drink for men.

Recently I have become more of a wine drinker. The reason is that I figured out that I most of the time drank my wine at the wrong temperature.

I have a friend, and he is more of a wine expert, and although he always had a beer cold for me when we had dinner together he kept pushing me to try wine with the meals our families had together.

After a long time, I decided to give in and starting to drink more wine and I have to be honest and mention here that I started to like it more and more.

I will never be an expert and I found out that you do not have to be one to enjoy a good glass of wine.

My friend has a website and was actually the on that told me to start this blog you are reading now about food in general.

He showed me that it makes a huge difference in taste when you serve wine at the right temperature and he even let me taste the difference to convince me.

Chilled Wine

glass being filled with red wine

He keeps his wine chilled in a wine refrigerator and wrote about them on his website. He chose a u-line as a brand and wrote a whole Uline wine cooler review on his website.

Since he is the expert I assume that he knows what he is talking about and I believe him when he mentioned and explained to me why he preferred a U-line. I am not ready to have my own wine fridge but am in the process of finding a cooler just for one bottle.

The reason is that besides that I am starting to enjoy wine more, in general, I also found, or actually new already for years, that wine has some great health benefits.

One of the benefits that I personally experienced is that when I drink a glass of wine at night I sleep better. According to the Mayo Clinic the resveratrol in wine, which comes from the fermented skin, is a very healthy ingredient in wine.

I am not sure if I will ever become a wine lover like some of my friends, but I am enjoying a good glass of wine more and more.

Beer or Wine?

I still like my nice cold beer but now I know that wine has to be served at the right temperature to give it its optimal flavor I have changed my mind that wine is more for women than for men.

If you have an opinion about wine, wine coolers or anything related to this subject feel free to let us know in the comments below.

Buying meat online?

hand with credit card in it in front of computer screen

Recently I have been on a search to find an answer to the question if you should buy meat online and how safe that is.

I am also trying to figure out how certain it is that you receive the meat that you ordered and not some random piece from a farm far away.

In other words, I am trying to figure out how honest and reliable all the meat stores are that are popping up more and more on the internet.

My Circumstances

I guess I am in the lucky circumstance that I have a lot of farms around me and that I know a few of them personally.

This means that I know where their meat is coming from and how it is raised. I am very interested in where my food is coming from and this was one of my concerns with ordering online.

What I did

I spend a lot of time reading and researching this and my conclusion is that I have not found any problem with the more well-known sites where you can order online.

They are very transparent in what farms they use and in some cases, it is even the farm itself that is taking care of all the processing, ordering, and shipping.

One of the ones with a good reputation is the Farmfoods and if you like to read you can read this Farmfoods review on this website.

Besides this farm, I have also found several other ones that have been around for a while now and in my opinion, they would not still be around if they are not delivering what they say they do.

This means that one of the best tips I can give you is to read as many customer reviews as you can find on as many websites as you can find. The reviews on their own sites are, in my opinion, somewhat biased.

What can you order?

In my research, I have found that you can order basically any type of meat. I have even found some exotic meats that I probably would never eat myself, but I guess there is a market for it.

Personally, I like grass-fed and finished beef and pork that is raised naturally and not stuffed with all kinds of food that they would never eat in nature.

This brings me to the next point and I think I will write a whole article about that in addition to the one I wrote here already.

Quality of the meat

In general, I think that there is nothing wrong with the meat you order online since it even comes frozen to your house in most cases.

I think, however, that if you order regular non-grass-finished beef you might as well go to your local supermarket.

The reason for that is that the only two benefits are that you know where your meat is coming from and it will be delivered to your doorsteps.

For me personally, that is not worth the higher price you pay for it, but you might have a different opinion about that.

In summarizing what I found out is that it is safe to buy meat online and the only thing I suggest is to order from stores that you researched or one that has been around for a while.

If you, however, do not order grass-finished beef or natural pork you might as well save money and buy it from your local store or a big box store.

Benefits of grass-fed and finished beef

I would trade my kidney for meat at any time (just kidding!) But to be honest, my love for beef is one of the few things that I am sure about in life. And if you love beef as much as I do, then you would understand that not all beef is the same. Some are grass-fed, while others are grain-fed, and some are grass-finished.

Plat with a nice cooked steak

The difference between the grass-fed and grass-finished beef is that grass-finished beef is obtained from cattle that was purely fed with grass while grass-fed may be used to refer to cattle that were primarily fed on grass, but with other supplements included.

But the bottom line is, both are obtained from cattle fed primarily on grass. And in this article, I am going to look at some of the benefits that you get from grass-fed beef and why you need to find the best place to buy grass-fed beef.

However, I found that it is hard to find information where you can buy grass-fed and finished beef.

My friend Peter Jameson from the Couch Potato Delivery website did a great job of having a look at all these online meat stores.

If you like to see someone else his opinion you can have a look at this video.

A lower amount of calories

I believe that one of the things that you watch out for when taking any meal is the number of calories that it has. At the end of the day, you do not want to become overweight by taking too many calories.

It is essential to point out that the amount of fat in grass-fed beef is significantly low compared to any other form of beef on the market. This is because the cattle feed on a relatively cleaner and more natural diet.

High levels of omega-3

Do you know of the great benefits that omega-3 has? Well, grass-fed beef makes a good source of this nutrient. When compared to grain-fed beef, grass-fed beef provides six times more omega-3 fatty acids.

If you are not aware, omega-3 helps with decreasing inflammation, which is essential for people who have rheumatoid arthritis. It also helps with fighting depression and improves your ability to focus more.

No risk of heart disease

As of 2016, more than 17.9 million people had died from cardiovascular diseases, and you would only imagine how high the numbers are in 2020. One of the best ways of preventing such diseases is by watching what you eat.

Grass-fed beef provides the best alternative to healthy meals that reduce the risk of getting heart disease due to its lower fat levels. Grass-fed beef is also rich in vitamin E, which is essential in improving your heart’s health.

Potential Cancer Fighter

One of the most dreaded diseases of our ages is cancer. If not detected early enough, it is almost impossible to survive it, and even for those that are lucky enough to have it caught early, getting treatment is usually quite expensive.

That said, what if someone told you that there’s a cheaper and more effective way to ward off this deadly disease? Yes, there is, and it can be obtained from grass-fed beef. Grass-fed beef is rich in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), which is known to be an effective nutrient in fighting cancer.

My Conclusion

I don’t know about you, but I would not want to miss out on the amazing benefits that grass-fed and grass-finished beef have. If you’ve been avoiding meat for any reason that’s not medical, it is time you find the best place to buy grass-fed beef and enjoy a tasty yet nutritious meal.

BBQ and Grilling Mistakes

Learn How To Get Rid Of Outside Cooking Errors that Kill Your Cookout

All of us make grilling and bbq cooking errors. Often we do not even know what they are until we recognize that the barbecued and grilled food you cook is not as excellent as you’ve had tasted elsewhere. Make a psychological note of these outdoor cooking pointers and get in the outside cooking game.
Your average yard cook is no specialist in the BBQ or barbecuing field. He has no TV shows on the Food Network. He has no grilling cookbooks out. Nor has any of those belonging to his lifetime objective.

No, your typical outdoor cooking enthusiast makes more errors with barbecue barbecuing than you might ever imagine. The meat ends up dry and hard again and again, regardless of marinading for hours. Or the meat is charred or prepared too long.
Since your average yard cook usually does not know any different, these errors are made time and time again.

Here are some of the more common mistakes

Read some more BBQ tips and some more do’s and don’t s made in barbecue grill cooking:

  • If you started with frozen meat, make certain the meat is defrosted completely. Aiming to cook the inside of a still-frozen piece of meat is beside impossible without burning the outside.
  • Lighter fluid taste will always get into your meat no matter how much you prepare the coals down. A chimney starter makes starting the fire a breeze.
  • Never poke the bbq meat with a fork after cooking has actually started. When poking with a fork, the juices will run out of the meat and right into the bottom of the barbeque pit or grill.
  • Lower the heat. Other than for steaks, that require a fast searing, cook slow over low to medium heat. Lower heat is far more workable and it will make the meat tender and juicy.
  • Quit lifting the lid to check the meat. Whenever you do that it changes the temperature level inside the barbecue grill or pit. Air from you opening the cover imitates a sponge and dries the meat up. Opening the cover likewise increases your chances of flare-ups.
  • This is more of a food safety mistake. Do not put the prepared meat back on the very same plate or platter that the raw meat was on without washing it. Mixing the cooked with the raw just begs for someone to get sick.

Deep Fried Food

hot air fryers and why they ae good

We all crave deep-fried food once in a while. And if it stays to once in a while there is probably no problem.
The problem starts when we get busy and do not give ourselves time to cook a good meal that contains all the nutrients we need on a daily basis.
Busy in most cases means a run through the drive-through and grabbing some junk food with of course a portion greasy fries.

Many people have a deep fryer at home and use it for snacks or french fries with dinner. Other options are chicken nuggets and more of the food that are easy to find in your local supermarket.

What if I tell you that there are other options to deep fry food without the use of all these unhealthy oils that we soak our food in before we stick it in our mouth.
This option is called air fryers and although they are not a new phenomenon most people have never heard of them and stick to their old deep frying methods.

I have found some great hot air fryer reviews on this website and I have learned a lot from it.
What I was reading is that one of the modern air fryers only uses a little bit oil and not the half a gallon or more that has to be used in the older type fryers.
